March 4, 2023 - 8:00 pm

The ASO opens with Symphony #3 in F major by 19th century Romantic master Johannes Brahms, a richly dramatic yet lyrical work in which Brahms addresses the question: does being single make you lonely or happy (or some combination of both)? After intermission it concludes with Symphonic Metamorphoses on a Theme by Carl Maria von Weber by 20th century modernist Paul Hindemith. In this work Hindemith reworks and embellishes tunes from Weber's incidental music for a play based on the legend of Turandot. What results is a dazzling display of orchestral color and pyrotechnics.
